Depression can manifest differently in individuals, regardless of their race or ethnicity. However, it's important to recognize that cultural factors may influence the way symptoms are expressed or reported. In Black women, as in any population, depression symptoms may include:

  1. Persistent Sadness or Low Mood: Feeling down or hopeless for an extended period.

  2. Loss of Interest or Pleasure: Losing interest in activities that were once enjoyable.

  3. Changes in Sleep Patterns: Insomnia or excessive sleeping can be indicators.

  4. Changes in Appetite or Weight: Significant changes in eating habits, leading to weight loss or gain.

  5. Fatigue: Feeling tired and lacking energy, even after rest.

  6. Difficulty Concentrating: Trouble focusing, making decisions, or remembering things.

  7. Feelings of Worthlessness or Guilt: An overwhelming sense of self-blame or inadequacy.

  8. Physical Symptoms: Unexplained aches, pains, or digestive issues without a clear medical cause.

  9. Isolation: Withdrawing from social activities, friends, or family.

  10. Irritability: Becoming easily annoyed or angered.

  11. Suicidal Thoughts: Thoughts of death or suicide may occur in severe cases.

HOW IT WORKS

  1. You schedule a 15-minute consultation to see if we are a good fit. This is your time to ask us any questions about diagnoses, who we work with, our values, what you can expect. You can also briefly share why you are seeking services. You get decide if you want to move forward or not.

  2. If we both decide to work together, we will schedule an intake assessment so that your provider can get a thorough understanding of how to assist you in your healing journey.

  3. Your provider will work with you to create treatment goals catered to you. We can set goals to work on stopping the cycles of depression, helplessness, anxiety, and fear from running your life. As well as setting boundaries, building self esteem, and how to make friends and build your support system.

  4. You can have a standing appointment (appointments on the same day and time weekly) or you can schedule an appointment in your client when you are available.

  • Often, people may know that they need help but it’s important to consider the following factors to see if you are ready to engage in the therapeutic process:

    1. Willingness to be introspective: You’re open to exploring your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. You value gaining self-insight and are ready to delve into your inner world.

    2. Willingness to challenge yourself: You’re willing to step outside your comfort zone and confront your fears, limiting beliefs, and patterns of behavior. You acknowledge that growth and change require taking risks and embracing new perspectives.

    3. Commitment to personal growth: You’re motivated to make positive changes in your life. You may have been encouraged by a loved one to get help, but you are doing this for yourself. You want to overcome obstacles, improve your well-being, and enhance your overall quality of life.

    4. Recognition of the financial and time requirements: You understand that therapy/ coaching involves a financial and time commitment. You’re willing to invest the necessary resources to prioritize your mental health and personal development.

    5. Openness to the therapeutic process: You embrace the therapeutic process and you’re receptive to guidance, feedback, and exploring new perspectives and strategies.

  • Choosing the right therapist/coach is like choosing a good lawyer, doctor, or friend – you may need to do some searching to find the right one for you but a good one will be honest, will operate with your best interests at heart, and will graciously hold you accountable.

    Prepare a list of important qualities you prefer from your therapist (ex. male, female, non-binary, etc.), put together a list of important questions (ex. are you LGBTQ-informed), and use consultations to aid your search.

  • You will be able to reach your provider in between sessions and gain support via email, client portal message, phone call, and text message.

    All methods of contact are HIPAA-compliant for your privacy.

  • Consultations are $30 for 15 minutes. Payment is required in order for the therapist/coach to approve the request.

    Find a Therapist is $39 for 15 minutes.

    Initial Sessions also known as Intake Assessments (60 minutes) are $300 USD.

    50-minute sessions (follow-up sessions) are $250 USD.

    Pick-My-Brain Sessions are $139 for 30 minutes.

    A credit/debit card is kept on file and charged the day of your session. HSA and FSA are also accepted forms of payment.

  • We are out-of-network service providers and can provide a superbill (a thorough receipt) for you to submit for reimbursement through your health insurance.

    A card must be on file to schedule appointments.

  • We recognize that our services are a financial investment and are not possible for all individuals. We are always looking for ways to serve clients at a reduced cost or for free.

    We are proud to accept Loveland Foundation Vouchers and Black Girls Smile Vouchers for therapy services. These organizations provide financial vouchers to help cover the cost of therapy for Black girls and women.

    Currently, we offer a free community called the Legacy Members Club for Black women (cisgender, trans, non-binary socialized as Black women, etc) who want to connect, heal, and thrive together. Inside we provide support groups, activities, mental health courses, webinars, and workshops.

  • Intake Assessments (Initial session) are 60 minutes.

    Typical sessions are 50 minutes each.

    Extended sessions of 1.5 or 2 hours are available upon request.

  • Typical plans are based on a weekly schedule.

    Specialized plans can have a biweekly, bimonthly, or monthly schedules depending on your wellness needs.

  • Licensed mental health providers are bound by ethics and laws to keep the details of therapy sessions confidential.

    However, there are 4 situations therapists are required to report intent or actions to the proper agencies: you are an imminent danger to yourself, you are an imminent danger to another person, child abuse, & elder abuse.
